Driving While Texting in Maryland

There are many car accidents throughout Maryland and most of those accidents unfortunately are preventable. I read an article today regarding texting while driving. According to sources there were over 158 billion text messages in 2006 and the number is on the rise. There are some states including Maryland which have tried to pass a law against driving while texting. The only problem is there hasn't been enough data presented to legislators that confirm that car accidents in Maryland are a result of text messaging.

While I do believe that these accidents are occurring in Maryland, without the necessary laws set in place to prevent driving while texting motor vehicle will continue to occur. As for now Washington DC is the only place in which its illegal to text and drive at the same time. As for now, you will receive a $101 dollar fine if caught. They also have a law against hand held cell phones.

My belief is that if passing a law against driving while text messaging can save lives, than the law should be in place. It is important to understand if you have been involved in a Maryland car accident due to someone else text messaging, you should absolutely contact our Maryland car accident attorneys today. While a law has not yet been passed, it is up to the driver to make sure he or she is negligent when operating a motor vehicle.
